Blog evangelism: Blogging on the road

Bloggers know about blogging. It's what bloggers do. Although not all bloggers have all the tools for building the perfect blog, most blog owners can cobble together a reasonable blog in a short period of time. Knowing about blogs in advance makes the blog development project much less difficult.

On the other hand, not every blog writer stops to think that not everyone knows much about blogs. In fact, some people aren't aware of blogs and their relationship building, SEO, marketing, promotional, and personalization power. Members of the blogging unaware group include some otherwise very astute business people. Their knowledge of blogs and blogging is often rudimentary at best, and entirely incorrect at worst.

Someone needs to spread the word, and if necessary, set the blogging record straight. As bloggers, it's up to us to spread the word about blogs and blogging. We must begin by stepping out of the blogging shadows, and let the world know we are bloggers. It might be a frightening idea at first. For many people, it may be the fist time that other members of your circle of friends and acquaintances might learn of your blogging activities. Perhaps your blog is a mystery to your own immediate family. Tell them about blogs in general, and your blog in particular.

Once your family and friends know that you blog, and it's not causing the downfall of Western Civilization as they had thought, it's time to spread the news to a larger audience. At first, it's a good idea to stay local, and help would be bloggers in your own community to become full fledged members of the blogosphere. All you have to do is know where to start your blog enlightenment campaign.

For business bloggers, the obvious choice is the local Chamber of Commerce. Offer your services as a speaker to the Chamber, and list your topic as how business blogs can help other business people. Give your blogging presentation for free, and make it clear that the seminar is on business blogging. Eliminate any confusion as to the type of blog from the beginning. Describe the value and power of the business blog, and emphasise the blog as another business tool. Don't leave the impression the blog is a toy or some frivolous lark. Talk business.

Whether presenting to a business audience, a community service club, or a group of journalists, be sure the organizer understands the type of blog to be discussed. The organizer will be of help in getting more visitors to your blog talk. The organizer might also invite you back for a presentation on another topic later. They may also recommend that you bring some marketing and promotional items to the seminar. You can't beat that for a benefit.

Any community based organization is a likely target for blog evangelism. Check through your local non-profit organizations listed in the Yellow Pages, or similar directories. Contact the organization, and offer to talk blogs.

As your local reputation as a blogger grows, you could find yourself the community authority on all thing blog related. As a result, your blog will gain visitor traffic and inbound links, and your own company might find itself with some additional free publicity, and many brand new customers and clients.

Blog evangelism a win win situation for everyone involved. Spread the word about blogging and the power of blogs and help to benefit business and professional people in your own hometown. Assisting other people's businesses to succeed helps everyone succeed.

And blog that gains might be your own.
